AppArmor is pleased to introduce its newest feature: Friend Walk. Watch our Friend Walk explanatory video here.

Friend Walk is similar to our Virtual Walkhome feature. But what’s unique about Friend Walk is that it doesn’t require any campus security/police resources. You can now get all the benefits of Virtual Walkhome without having to dedicate a dispatcher to it.

How It Works

Friend Walk uses the same location services technology as Virtual Walkhome. The difference is that it sends the user’s position to a contact through email or SMS or messaging client on the device. Once the friend accepts the Friend Walk request, the user picks their destination and their friend tracks their location in real time; they keep an eye on them to make sure they make it safely to their destination.

The user has a panic button that alerts their friend of an emergency and also triggers a call to emergency services. If the friend closes the window where they’re monitoring the user, the user is notified and given the option to call emergency services immediately. When the user reaches their destination they end the trip and are no longer tracked by their friend.

The Benefits

Friend Walk doesn’t use any resources from your security/police department. It’s an easy way for friend or family to monitor a safe journey home and, if necessary, trigger an emergency call.

We’re very excited about this feature as we believe it’s something which can easily improve download stats and usage of the app. This feature will be available to all AppArmor clients after the next update which occurs in the early summer of 2016.
